Exhibiting Artists at the Fairlawn Gallery

Daryl Bessell has been interested in art, particularly painting, for many years.  In the last nine years she has been painting in watercolours and working with a variety of media on collages.  Travel has inspired paintings of the Artic, Newfoundland, Mexico, Jordan and Ontario. Daryl loves gardening - her front lawn has become a flowerbed which has inspired a number of paintings.  Daryl loves colour and enjoys playing with methods of applying it to the paper.  She has exhibited at a number of centres and galleries in Toronto and is a member of the Willowdale and North Toronto Artists groups.  Contact: daryl9@rogers.com

Katherine Culp "I have been intrigued by the art world since childhood. I studied art professionally in my teens in Montreal at The Visual Arts Centre and later became exposed to a variety of mediums while attending Sheridan College in Oakville. Ruth Hayes’ course at the Fairlawn Neighbourhood Centre sparked my interest in watercolours. As a result, my technique has been enhanced with a softer style. My work reflects whimsical, dreamlike characters, often reflecting the repetition of natural forms through playful brush strokes." Contact: true_blue29@hotmail.com

Sue Ennis: came to art later in her life after a successful career in the financial services indsutry.  Sue has been painting and exhibiting for about 10 years now, after completing studies at the Toronto School of Art.  She creates colourful and energetic abstract paintings using acrylic on canvas, and also uses oil stick on mylar to produce softer, more subtle images.  Almost anything can become the subject matter for a painting.  Sometimes what catches her eye triggers the idea for a painting.  At other times inspiration can come from places remembered or places imagined.  Sue's paintings range in size from only 8" x 8" to images that are 6 ft. by 4 ft.  Her artistic journey continues and Sue is very happy to have discovered this new career!  Please visit her website at:  www.suepaintings.blogspot.com

Ruth Forbes: is originally from Prague and spent much of her life in the West Indies and England. Exposure to different countries and cultures has contributed greatly to her unique approach to the use of colour and special relationships. While in England Ruth was a member of the Buckinghamshire Arts Council and exhibited her silk, Chinese and encaustic paintings from 1975 onwards. Since coming to Canada she has worked in pastel and acrylic and has studied under various teachers. Ruth has participated with group exhibitions at North York Library and the Skyline Gallery.

Jill Klaehn:  a life long member of Fairlawn Avenue United Church returned to painting after a career as a preschool teacher for children with special needs.  Canada's diverse landscapes, from vast wilderness vistas to forest floor miniatures, are interpreted by Jill in serene, gentle yet energizing paintings.  Her more recent portrait paintings are taking her in another direction.  She has paintings in various homes in the GTA, Ontario and Quebec and has completed several commissions.

Anne Neidhardt: Inspired by a workshop lead by Ruth Hayes at Fairlawn Neighbourhood Centre, I jumped head first into watercolour and loved it! I continued on painting in the studio of John Smith and learned a great deal from the experienced artists gathered there. In the last three years I have taken part in other workshops by well-known artists and have become a member of the Willowdale Group of Artists and the North York Visual Artists.

John Nussbaum:  The sharp light and tropical vegetation of Southern Africa framed John's early artistic influences.  He majored in Art and Art History in high school, pursued further study at Natal techniocal college and with two Master Teachers, Bill Ainslee and Lionel Abrahams.  Extended working trips to Europe and the Far East facilitated study of classical and modern techniques.  OCAD courses further developed his knowledge and technique.  John is an award winning artist who participates in many exhi9bitions and is currently President of North York Visual Artists.
